In this blog post, our professionals from Tidal Wave Restoration will explain the process of a mold restoration.

Understanding the Mold

Understanding mold is as important as understanding how to remove it. Once you realize how mold takes place and spreads, then you’ll be able to successfully remove it and put a stop to it.

With mold spores growing in your home, it is highly likely that a person with allergies or an illness can suffer from it. Exposure to mold can lead to the effects of a runny nose, coughing, sneezing, headaches, itching, and fatigue. For this reason, it is recommended that anyone with allergies or an illness should leave the area immediately.

The way mold successfully spreads is by releasing spores into the air. These are reproductive cells which are hard to notice as they’re almost invisible. The start of mold usually comes from flooding and storms which later leads to a water damage restoration.

Study the Mold Growth

Once you have figured out the way mold grows and spreads, it is time to study the mold growth. It is important to do so as you will be able to help identify what type of mold it could be. Most of the time, mold that has grown after the occurrence of water damage and flooding has a dark color. This color can be a dark brown, green, or black.

When identifying the mold, try to make sure you trace it to find where the source is. An easy way to spot mold in your home is seeing your drywall becoming soft and soggy. When you identify the source, isolate the area and start the process of preventing mold spores.

Safety Gear

When handling big amounts of mold, you need to gather the correct safety gear. For your safety, obtaining gloves and a mask is vital. As the gloves help you from touching the mold, the mask aids you by keeping you away from breathing in spores.

Removing the Mold

As it may seem difficult to remove mold, with a solution and a scrubbing cloth, it can be done in no time. Acquiring bleach, detergent, and chlorine can solve your problems. Firstly, mix detergent and water together to create a cleaning solution. Use a scrubbing cloth to clean the surface. After that, pour bleach into water then proceed to dump three quarters of chlorine into the solution and mix it up. Once that is done, scrub the surface with that mixture, rinse, then air dry the area.
